[1] Plea deal expected for man accused of murdering Muslim men in Albuquerque – The man accused of killing Muslim men in Albuquerque two years ago may be changing his plea. The attorney for Muhammad Syed has confirmed a change of plea hearing will happen Tuesday. In March, Syed was convicted for the murder of Aftab Hussein in July of 2022. In that case he was sentenced to life in prison. Syed is also charged with the murders of Naeem Hussein and Afzaal Hussain. The details of the plea deal have not been released.
[2] VIDEO: Suspect flees from multiple car crash in Albuquerque – In May, police say 22-year-old Sean Ray hit a car near I-40 and 6th St. while trying to get away from them. The crash caused two other cars to collide next to it. Police say Ray ran a red light and seriously injured a passenger in one of the cars involved in the crash. Ray was arrested in July, Judge Maria Dominguez released Ray on his own recognizance, and he’s pleaded not guilty to aggravated fleeing and reckless driving.
[3] Warming up & mostly dry around New Mexico – Lingering moisture to the southeast, along with just enough daytime heating, will still lead to a few areas receiving at least some doses of rainfall. While most of the region will still be mostly dry today, storms will be most likely in the San Juan Mountains, parts of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and for the southeastern corner of New Mexico.
[4] Registry, fines could await vacant Downtown building owners if bill goes through – An Albuquerque city councilor will soon be introducing a bill that would crack down on the owners of vacant buildings downtown. While there are already codes in place that fine building owners who have dilapidated buildings, councilor Joaquin Baca says his bill would create a registry to help the city be more proactive on which vacant buildings need to be inspected instead of relying on 311 calls. Baca says he plans to have city funding in place for property owners ready to update their buildings.
[5] All American Futurity comes to Downs at Albuquerque after fires, flooding hits Ruidoso – The All American Futurity usually happens every Labor Day Weekend in Ruidoso. However, the devastating fire and floods forced Ruidoso Downs to move the race to Albuquerque. The “All American Futurity” is known as the “world’s richest Quarter Horse race” with a $3 million purse. Bryan Candanosa and his steed “Hezgothelook Z” took home the $3 million win.
