SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – The 100th anniversary of the burning of Zozobra is being celebrated with a new special shape Zozobra hot air balloon and new Santa Fe Police Department Zozobra uniform patches.
The Zozobra hot air balloon is 135 feet tall and weights 730 pounds. The balloon was purchased through a partnership between the Kiwanis Club, City of Santa Fe and City of Albuquerque. The balloon will be inflated and the public is invited to Fort Marcy Park in Santa Fe between 7 – 9 a.m. on Friday, August 30 to see the new Zozobra Balloon. The 100th burning of Zozobra will take place on Friday, August 30. Gates open at 4 p.m.
The Santa Fe Police Department is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the burning of Zozobra with a Zozobra uniform patch that has been authorized to be worn until the 2025 burning of Zozobra. The patch was issued to all SFPD personnel that are working the event and providing field coverage outside of the event. The patch was designed by Senior Police Officer Jonathan Harmon and Project Specialist Morgan Alexander.
