ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department chief responsible for a car crash is now being sued by the victim. Todd Perchert had serious injuries when APD Chief Harold Medina t-boned his classic Mustang in February. Medina claimed gunfire caused him to speed through a red light at Central and Alvarado crashing into Perchert’s car.
An internal investigation uncovered that Medina did not turn on his body camera after the crash. He claimed it was his Fifth Amendment right to not self-incriminate. The investigation revealed police department policy did not permit Medina to do that.
Perchert is also suing the City of Albuquerque and the Albuquerque Police Department.
