Friday Night Football 2024 – Week 1 

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The first week of the 2024 high school football season is here and the Friday Night Football team is back for another season. Here is a look at how week 1 shook out.

The Education Plan Game of the Week

Defending state champion La Cueva opened the season at Community Stadium against Volcano Vista. The Bears won the game 21-0 via a lightning cancelation in the third quarter.

“We made some big plays when we needed to, we are still making a lot of mistakes, too many mistakes that we are making, but its the first game both teams are out there trying their best running around and making big plays and big mistakes but those are the things that happen in the early season,” said head coach Brandon Back.

The Numbers Game

The state’s returning passer from the 2023 season is Bloomfield’s Blake Spencer. The Bobcats signal caller posted a 67% completion rate and a touchdown/interception ratio of 35-4 in 2023. His 8.75 TD/INT is 3.75 points better than the state’s next rated passer. He led the team to an 11-1 record and a state semi-finals appearance.
