NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Xcel Energy is asking parts of eastern and southeastern New Mexico to cut back on their energy usage. The company said an urgent reduction in power is needed to maintain the electrical system and provide service to all of its customers.
The company wants people to turn off lights, appliances, and air conditioning unless needed for health reasons. The counties impacted are Lea, Roosevelt, Curry, De Baca, Guadalupe, Harding, Quay, and San Miguel.
This is part of a larger request from Xcel Energy and electric cooperatives in New Mexico, the Texas South Plains, and Texas Panhandle.
