ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A 25-year resident at the Albuquerque aquarium has died. The ABQ BioPark said Mimi the loggerhead sea turtle was undergoing surgery for abnormally sized follicles in her abdomen. The care team learned she would not survive the procedure and euthanized her while she was under anesthesia.
Mimi arrived in Albuquerque in 1997 after the New England aquarium rescued her from cold shock. She was missing an eye and could not return to the wild. The BioParks said Mimi meant a lot to the entire aquarium team.
