UNM Athletic Director Eddie Nuñez accepts job at University of Houston: reports 

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – There has been a shakeup in the UNM Athletic Department. The Lobos Athletic Director Eddie Nuñez, is leaving New Mexico for the University of Houston to become the Cougars Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, per the university.

Nuñez was hired by UNM in 2017. In his tenure with the Lobos, New Mexico has won a national championship, 22 conference titles, and made 53 NCAA tournament appearances across multiple sports.

“I want to thank Eddie for the work that he has done here at The University of New Mexico,” said UNM President Garnett S. Stokes. “He has led Lobo Nation with pride and enthusiasm, and he and his wife Jane have been terrific ambassadors for UNM and our athletic department. Our success on the field and in the classroom is a reflection of his leadership, and it is a source of pride for all Lobos.”

Nuñez will officially be introduced as Houston’s athletic director on Wednesday.
