University of New Mexico relaunching center to aid students in recovery

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The University of New Mexico is relaunching its facility to help students recovering from substance abuse.

The goal of the Collegiate Recovery Center is to create a peer space on campus where students can seek recovery support and resources. The center will also help students get connected with resources outside of UNM so that they have a community when they graduate.

Officials said it had been used as a safe space for students in the recovery process in the past, but it went virtual during the pandemic and eventually fizzled out.

The center will be housed in UNM’s Student Health and Counseling building and is expected to open in the fall.
